More Fire Mondays welcomes the utterly amazing and truly rhythm rooted DJ Panamami to the Reggae Rooftop this Monday July 9th.
"Hip-hop, calypso, salsa underscored Panamami’s upbringing as a West
Indian Panamanian growing up in Echo Park, Los Angeles. She absorbed the
High Life, Hip Life and Arab-influenced music popular in Ghana and
Niger during her year-long stay in Africa, just as she did the local
sounds of Baltimore, Washington D.C. and the Bay Area, three other
cities she has called home. Panamami’s sets are eclectic and informed;
from Brazilian beats to dancehall, cumbia , hip hop and more, anything
goes when she hits the turntables. Panamami has successfully rocked
diverse crowds all over the US by seamlessly moving between genres,
handpicking both classic and contemporary songs to keep partygoers on
their toes.
Panamami is co-founder of Bodega, a seasonal world music party and one
of the fastest-growing dance event in Los Angeles, where she has rocked
alongside a slew of famed guest Djs, such as Quantic and Rich Medina.
She has graced venues like Kress Nightclub and Zanzibar in Southern
California, the Elbo Room in San Francisco, Bardot in Miami and DROM and
Bembe in New York City. One of her mixtapes was recently featured on
Jay Z’s popular blog, Life and Times and Parlour Magazine. She has also
been heard over the airwaves on Dj Chilly’s radio show El Sonido on
Seattle’s 90.3 FM as well as over internet radio as a disk jockey and
personality on Bodega Community Radio in 2011. She is also one of the
few American DJs who have had the pleasure of spinning for crowds in the
Hongdae district of South Korea. With Panamami’s broad taste in music
and sharp turntable skills, it is of no surprise that she continues her
reign as one of the most sought-after dj’s in both LA and beyond."
