MOREFIRE MONDAYS SEPT 2 W/ SPECIAL GUEST DJ SUPERNOVA (HIP HOP ROOM)

Super Nova grew up in the birthplace of Hip-Hop, the Bronx, New York, and realized at a young age that music bridges the gap between all cultures. Equipped with a unique ear for music, Super Nova found himself inspired by the energy and eclectic sounds in NYC. He spent many of his younger years break-dancing, but his attention quickly shifted once he realized becoming a DJ was his real outlet. The aspiring crowd-pleaser would learn to DJ while at Penn State University, graduating with an education that extended well past the classroom. Super Nova quickly became a fixture at PSU campus parties and events, and at many other schools along the East Coast. His dominance on the party circuit landed him opportunities to share the stage with a wide range of popular music acts including Fabolous, Wale, Lupe Fiasco, O.A.R., Matt & Kim, and Pitbull. Now, Super Nova is en route to take over Los Angeles. The recent move to Southern California has only increased exposure to his skill on the turntables, by extending his network and client list. Any given weekend finds Super Nova featuring in respectable clubs and internet radio stations in the Golden State while remaining loyal to his clientele on the East Coast. Super Nova’s radio resume includes spinning tracks for All Hit B94.5 FM (State College, PA), The Beat 92.7, 993 FM (Phoenix, AZ), Metro FM (National South African Radio) and Shade 45 on XM/Sirius Radio. He has also performed internationally, wowing crowds in Belize, the Dominican Republic, Kingston, Jamaica, and South Africa. The most recent title to become a part of his resume is Sound Designer: Super Nova was recruited to provide his expertise in music for Insidious, a play that premiered in The Black Repertory Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri. Super Nova returns to the stage as Sound Designer and actor in Smash/Hit!, a Hip-Hop play, in The Black Repertory Theatre for the Spring of 2013. For the last eight years Super Nova has worn many faces: an actor, businessman, producer, sound designer, event planner—but ultimately, he is the deejay. With a vision that ranges from having his own domestic college tour, to producing his own theatrical play, there is no stopping Super Nova. His energy is innovative, offering listeners a new way to shake off the struggles of the present, and escape into the possibilities of the future.

8.12.13 MOREFIRE MONDAYS W/ SPECIAL GUEST DJ SKU

Sku (pronounced skew) is no stranger to the ever evolving musical tastes of today's club going patrons. With over a decade of experience behind the decks and in nightclubs across the globe, he "skews" the notion of DJ-as-selector by laying both hands to the wax and showing his ability to take just about any two records and seamlessly mix them into a battery of butt-movin' beats. Taking elements from his "turntablist" background and incorporating trick mixing, beat juggling, and scratching into his sets, is what easily sets him apart from other DJ's. He's a nationally recognized and award winning DJ with accomplishments in various prestigious DJ competitions held around the world including the DMC, Red Bull Thre3style, and Guitar Center battles. Touring nationally and internationally with industry heavyweights such as Atmosphere and performing alongside Grammy winners LMFAO, Sku is well versed in adapting to any entertainment situation. Spinning in bars for 200 people or dropping tracks at festivals for 20,000 people you can count on Sku to rock any crowd in any room with his seamless mixing style, weaving in and out of genres as if he were actually weaving a blanket of pure musical bliss. Book him today, you won't regret it.

More Fire 08/05/13 w/ PORCHLITE

This Monday, More Fire welcomes special guest, PORCHLITE

As a DJ and producer Porchlite is no stranger to the music life. Having shared stages

and toured with A-list artists such as The Roots, N*E*R*D, Talib Kweli, The Beat

Junkies, and Tony Touch to collaborating with independent artists such as Bombay, The

Re:Fresh Crew, Parable, and Auxvoyager, this Inland Empire native says he wouldn’t

be able to stop producing and performing music even if the bill collector cut the power

and the repo man took all of his gear. “It’s just what I do. It’s all love.” Currently Porchlite

has been performing live beat sets off of his drum machine, creating live musical

journeys for audiences to enjoy. It was only a matter of time before he brought what he

does in the studio to the stage, and he plans to progress these sets by adding a visual

component and taking them to a larger stage. While that head-nod music is his roots,

house music and downtempo is a part of his daily routine. Some says stick to what you

know, but this what he knows, versatility.

MORE FIRE MONDAYS JULY 8TH W/ DJ 4REAL

Born Suneel Mathaudhu in Tacoma Park Maryland, DJ 4Real moved to Riverside, California (About 45 mins east of LA) at the age of 6. "I remember my first hip hop experience. I was in 6th grade and my brother played me Beastie Boys Licensed To Ill; which is kind of funny now, because he was never a real big rap fan." For the next few year’s 4Real continued to hone his music skills by playing the piano and trumpet, but it was not until his friend left his dj system at his house that 4Real found his true calling. "My friend left his system at my house after my B'Day party my Senior year in high school because he was too lazy to pack it up. So I just started playing around on the turntables and taught myself how to mix. I would stay up all night and listen to the DJ's mixing on the radio because I had so much passion for the music." During this time 4Real continued to dj with a promotional group called the events company @ Rewind in Hollywood. He then went and applied for work at commercial radio station 99.1 KGGI Clear Channel Station in Riverside/LA. In the year 2000, KGGI hired 4Real to work on the street team. "Once I started working at 99.1, I knew I was on my way because I had finally gotten my foot in the music industry door." After 1 year on the street team 4Real got promoted to mixing on the air. He has been Mixing on 99.1 ever since. 4Real is currently considered one of the top DJ's in West Coast. 4Real's strength as a dj has a lot to do with not only his mixing ability but his tremendous ear for music that allows him to flip records quickly and put things together that wouldn't normally fit. The diversity he brings to the table is not something that the average club dj would be able to give you. "I love mixing in clubs. That is my forte. I might be the only dj you will hear playing Jay Z, Kenny Rodgers, Nirvana, New Edition, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, A Tribe Called Quest, Usher, and Jaylib in an hour set in a club and make it hot" You can catch 4Real in the djing in hottest clubs or djing parties for Eminem, 50 Cent, G-Unit, Tracy McGrady, Marques Houston, Jessica Alba, Jon B, and different movie studios. He has also gained national TV exposure on UPN and BET's Rap City, as well as Djing on stage for B2K and Jon B. 4Real is currently partner of one of the most sought after clubs in LA. Icon LA (Ranked top 20 in revenue in USA), located in the heart of DTLA located next to the Staples Center home of the LA Lakers. Icon LA is also the home of what Playboy Magazine calls “best parties in California RedCup Sunday”. It has been through hard work that 4Real has been able to build his reputation in the music industry as a dj. "I have been very blessed that I have been able to pursue my dreams and continue to accomplish my goals.”

MORE FIRE MONDAY PRESENTS: SOUTH RAKKAS CREW, D-RAKKAS

More Fire Mondays proudly presents South Rakkas Crew, July 1, 2013

“When it comes to knowing what mashes a dance, few production outfits can match South Rakkas Crew.”—Pitchfork

“South Rakkas Crew make some of the most electrifying dance music on the planet.”
—The Guardian

Diplo and ‘N Sync? Deerhoof and Elephant Man? Tricky and Michael Jackson? M.I.A and Thom Yorke? Just one name links up this diverse, groundbreaking posse: forget Kevin Bacon—when it comes to six degrees of the most cutting-edge music production out there, there’s only South Rakkas Crew.

Rugged dancehall, shameless pop, hipster electro bangers, rude dubstep—fuck it, South Rakkas does it all. The duo comprised of Dennis “D-Rakkas” Shaw and Alex “Alex G” Greggs, South Rakkas took an unusual path to become the dons of digital funk. South Rakkas first gained fame for their blazing dancehall riddims (“Clappas,” “Red Alert,” “Bionic Ras,” “Chinkuzi” anyone?), which brought production work for stars like Vybz Kartel, Mr. Vegas, Elephant Man. But it’s not for nothing that XLR8R recently praised South Rakkas for their “boundary-pushing” powers; indeed, these futuristic rhythm killers can’t be held down to any one sound or style. SRC can flex from Beenie Man and Bounty Killer one moment, T-Pain the next, and then on to the likes of M.I.A., Lily Allen, Beck, Duran Duran, Justin Timberlake, The Bug, Warrior Queen, Britney Spears, and Shakira—all of whom have been touched by South Rakkas’ edgy studio savvy. Those skills came about when D-Rakkas and Alex G met up working at the same recording studio in Toronto, Canada. Both had roots in the local hip-hop/reggae scene: Alex G created beats for local rap groups and, erm, Barenaked Ladies, while D-Rakkas spent his youth as charismatic, party-starting DJ (“Rakkas” is in fact a local West Indian slang term for “rockers” reggae music that he used to put on his DJ flyers to indicate his parties’ music policy). The concept for SRC first hatched, though, when the duo moved to Orlando, Florida to become a crucial part of ‘N Sync’s production team. There, D-Rakkas conceptualized South Rakkas Crew and enlisting Alex G in a pairing that would combine both their strengths. The plan was simple: Alex G would hold down the pop/dance production side in Florida (his work with the archetypal boy band on smash albums like Pop would catapult him into the pantheon of platinum-plated star producer/mixer/remixers); D-Rakkas, meanwhile, would travel to ruffneck Kingston, Jamaica, where an introduction from his brother-in-law Mr. Vegas gave him access to dancehall’s top talent. Rakkas’ first riddim, “Clappas,” quickly proved a major island smash, paving the way for many more; Jamaican and non-Jamaican audiences alike also appreciated SRC’s talent for fusing hook-laden song structure with sound-system destroying beats.

This unique combo of hit-making production and arrangement with hard-hitting dancehall sonics sets the stage for SRC’s inevitable global takeover. While South Rakkas kept a foot in the pop game, they’ve also been acclaimed by the underground and critics alike. When beat king Diplo put out South Rakkas’ Mad Again and The Mix Up eps on his Mad Decent label, the blogosphere proved unanimous in its praise: Prefix raved about Mix Up’s “production perfection,” while Thom Yorke was dropping the Boy 8-Bit mix of “Mad Again” while guest DJing on Gilles Peterson’s BBC radio show. Trip-hop titan Tricky chose SRC to remix his entire West Knowle Boy album, garnering rapturous press. According to The Independent, SRC “transformed it into a high-voltage electro and sublime space-disco monster. In fact, Knowle West Boy is barely there, but something fantastic has appeared in its place”; as well, the BBC called it “a collision of exotic and intoxicating rhythms that dance around truly body-rocking beats, hammered and glued into forms that enthrall and excite… Tricky Meets South Rakkas Crew is an electrifying listen, invigorating the parts Tricky can’t usually reach.”

In 2010, D-Rakkas and Alex G dropped what would be their last album together, as the production duo, The Stimulus Package, via Mad Decent. Stimulus proved a classically iconoclastic SRC move: it featured, of course, expected cameos from dancehall mega-celebs like Capleton, but mixed with surprises like vocals from Satomi Matsuzaki of indie-noise gurus Deerhoof and Mylo’s “Drop The Pressure” transformed into a dubplate riddim! Critics again united in unanimous admiration: The Fader said “South Rakkas Crew wants to start 2010 with energy. The Stimulus Package brims with their brand of rugged ragga that is laced with songs that could be heard at an all-night dance party at some club we’ve never been to in Madrid”; notable blog True Genius Requires Insanity stated “On The Stimulus Package, the South Rakkas Crew don't just throw down the gauntlet in dancehall, but kick open doors in dubstep and electro…

South Rakkas Crew do everything on this album short of painting a sign that they are THE experimental force in dancehall music… A superb body of work by superb and veteran producers and remixers.”

The release of The Stimulus Package was marked by D-Rakkas touring the better part the year following a string of massively successful Australian festival tour dates in 2009; as well, M.I.A personally selected South Rakkas to open her N.E.E.T. label showcase.

Following the duos disband and almost a year’s hiatus, South Rakkas Crew reemerges: better, stronger, faster, and more prolific than ever. South Rakkas Crew, now solely led by D-Rakkas, realizes its most productive period with 8 releases over the past year. These EPs, multi-singles, and remix packs are garnering massive attention and acclaim as D-Rakkas collaborates with EDM’s hottest rising remixers, producers and artists. With their crucial next-level approach to Dubstep, Moombahton, Trap and, of course, SRC’s classic Electro-Dancehall, we can only imagine what’s to come.
